This position exists to develop U5-U11 youth soccer players in Central Texas in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of Lonestar Soccer Club through a seasonal league program. The coach is expected to deliver quality soccer guidance and education to young athletes within the Lonestar Junior Academy program, and help those players realize their development potential. The Junior Academy is a key program to start or advance coaching careers for both new and experienced coaches under the banner of the most successful club in Central Texas.
This position will report to the relevant Site Coordinator and the Juniors Program Directors of Coaching.
Qualifications
- Experience in playing the game or have a good understanding of rules
- Knowledge or ability to apply player development curriculum to on-field sessions
- Must have general understanding and experience teaching kids between 5-10 years old
- English fluency is required.
- Ability to demonstrate technical skills in relation to the game/curriculum
- Successful completion of background check and safety courses as mandated by federal law
- Professional in demeanor, attire, and appearance to promote the professionalism of Lonestar Soccer Club
Duties & Responsibilities
- Participate in pre-season coaching clinics to advance coaching and program knowledge
- Participate in pre-season evaluations and scrimmage to determine appropriate team placement/assignments
- Conduct weekly, organized training sessions throughout the season at one or more Junior Academy locations with a focus on individual player development and the Lonestar development philosophy
- Coach one or more weekend league games at one or more multiple locations, with an emphasis on development and teaching the game (as opposed to results).
- Conduct parent meetings in order to distribute important season/team information and well as maintain good relationships with members.
- Availability to support site coordinators with coverage of practices and games (compensated) to ensure smooth operation of the program.
- Communicate in a timely and respectful manner to members within the program and to site coordinators
Physical Requirements
This position will require prolonged periods of standing and walking/running in outdoor fields (90% of the time) while participating in practices and games Bending, reaching, lifting (10% of day) while setting up sessions and warmups
STANDARD WORK HOURS & AVAILABILITY (WEEKENDS, TRAVEL, PEAK PERIODS, ETC)
- Up to 6 months per year (3 month fall and spring seasons)
- Up to 20 hours per week depending on team assignments (coaches have the option to be assigned up to 4 teams)
- Each team participates in two weekly evening training sessions, and a minimum of one game at weekends:
- Additional (optional) opportunities outside the program to gain experience and earn extra (refereeing, camps & programs)
