Job Description

Lincoln Youth Soccer (LYS) is a community-based competitive and recreational soccer club located in Portland, Oregon. We are a 501(c)(3) and believe in the power of the beautiful game to change lives for the better. Lincoln Youth Soccer was formed with the alliance of 4 neighborhood rec clubs – Forest Heights Soccer Club, Hillside Soccer Club, Vista Soccer Club, and Skyline Soccer Club. These Rec Clubs currently serve K-5th players while LYS serves Competitive programming and Middle School Rec.

LYS Staff Coach will support and provide mentorship for our parent-volunteer coaching staff. This could be through assisting in session planning, running sessions, helping coordinate tryouts, etc. The Staff Coach will also collaborate with the LYS Director of Coaching to run LYS camps, classes, and clinics.

Responsibilities

  • Supports LYS and Neighborhood Rec Club coaches in the implementation of the LYS philosophies and values.
  • Provides on-field support for volunteer coaches and answers technical questions from parents and players.
  • Supports LYS Director of Coaching in the planning and facilitation of camps, classes and clinics throughout the year.
  • Create positive relationships with players and aid in their development, both as a player and a person.

Minimum Requirements

  • Forward-thinking and proactive. The Staff Coach should creatively seek new ways to offer services and improve LYS programming to benefit LYS players, parents, and coaches.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Solution-oriented, a positive attitude and ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Minimum 2 years youth coaching experience and USSF D License Course Completion.
  • Proficiency in working with both our youngest and oldest age groups
  • Ability to pass national background checks through the Oregon Youth Soccer Association.
  • Soccer playing experience at the collegiate level preferred.
  • Experience in a women’s/girl’s soccer program preferred.

Compensation and Terms of Employment:

Position varies in both duties and activity level in tune with the soccer calendar. It includes the need for frequent shifting priorities and activities. The Staff Coach role will include physical activity related to soccer training and coaching and requires evening and weekend hours.

The individual in this role can expect varying hours depending on the season.

We estimate an average of 10-20 hours per week and compensation will range between $18/hr and $28/hr depending upon experience.
