The employee is responsible for officiating in scheduled soccer games and programs sponsored or coordinated by the Parks and Recreation Department. A high level of independent judgment is necessary to be a referee. The Soccer Referee is under the direction of the assigned supervisor. All employees are responsible to the Athletic Coordinator.

Responsibilities

  • Officiates soccer games as assigned and enforces the rules of play.
  • Effectively communicates with coaches, players, parents, and sponsors and helps maintain order.
  • Maintains accurate time sheets and turns them into a designated supervisor.
  • Operates ball pumps and whistles.
  • Performs other duties or special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the Rules of Play standard to the game of soccer and as modified by the City and the ability to enforce such rules.
  • Prior experience in officiating soccer games is desirable.
  • Must be able to pass a background check required for employees working with minors.
  • Experience working with youth is desired.
  • Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • Parent/School Authorization form required for employees under 18 years of age.

The employee works outdoors at a variety of playing sites throughout the City in a variety of weather conditions. All City/school district facilities are smoke-free. The employee will be exposed to loud noises, moving/running participants and fast-moving soccer balls.

While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; run; sit; bend; use hands to finger, reach, handle or feel objects, equipment, or tools; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop; kneel; crouch; or crawl.

The employee must be able to lift up to 25 pounds on a frequent basis; and lift and/or move 25 to 50 pounds on an occasional basis with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
