Job Description

Under the direction of the Recreation Coordinator and Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Coach will organize, conduct, participate, and supervise a variety of recreation activities as assigned. The Recreation Coach will be asked to collaborate with other Mission Oaks Staff, San Juan Unified School District Staff, contractors, vendors, and others to provide an enriching and safe environment for youth. This is a seasonal position.

Recreation Coach is expected to work effectively under minimal supervision. Work within a framework of standard District policies and procedures.

Incumbents perform job duties outdoors. They perform duties outside with exposure to varying climate and temperature conditions and to dust, constant noise, moving objects, and other vehicles. Incumbents are in close contact with program participants, volunteers, and District staff.They may be required to carry supplies and equipment for special events.

Strength, mobility, stamina to bend, stretch, stand, kneel, walk, stoop, lift, carry push or pull objects weighing up to 30 pounds. Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
Job involves 30% standing and 70% walking or active.
Must occasionally have the ability to feel the attributes of objects by touch; maintain body
equilibrium to prevent falling; and be able to walk, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, and stand.
Strength, mobility, stamina to perform various physical activities.

This is a seasonal position.
State law requires that the applicant selected for the position must complete fingerprint process to check for or verify conviction record; TB test clearance also required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and lead daily practice, keeping participants engaged.
  • Manage inventory and orderliness of program equipment/supplies.
  • Prepare the space for the program each day with all necessary supplies.
  • Uphold behavior policies and safety procedures for all activities.
  • Attend staff meetings, training, and workshops.
  • Notify and report any problems or concerns of parents and/or children to the Recreation Coordinator.
  • Market the program at the school to help recruit participants.
  • Perform other program-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Work with children aged 6 years and older.
  • Basic knowledge of recreation activities such as soccer, athletics, and physical fitness.
  • Effective oral communication skills.
  • Ability to lead physical, recreational, and leisure activities.
  • Exercise good judgment and contribute constructively to a collaborative team.
  • Work flexible hours, including some weekends and evenings.
  • Must have reliable transportation to commute to San Juan Elementary and Middle Schools, and various program locations within the District.

Licenses

  • Preferred possession of a valid class C California Driver’s license.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications are highly desired but not required.

Generally, anywhere: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 1:30pm -6pm (Modified hours for training and other meetings when necessary)
