Job Description
The Chicano Federation of San Diego County is recruiting enthusiastic Youth Soccer Coaches for our Summer Soccer & Leadership Academy to be hosted at Central San Diego Middle Schools and the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista. In collaboration with the San Diego Unified School District, the Chicano Federation Soccer & Leadership Academy provides full-day sport development programming to priority children in the district. The Soccer Coaches will report directly to the Soccer Operations Manager and are responsible for the effective delivery of all instructional aspects of the program.
Responsibilities
- 1+ year of coaching or youth development experience at the recreational level.
- If needed, travel on the player transportation bus to the camp facility.
- Assist with player check-in and check-out when needed.
- Setup, breakdown and maintain the playing field.
- Consistently engage with the recreational youth soccer players in attendance.
- Plan and instruct soccer drills as well as leadership activities with all academy participants while maintaining program safety.
- Provide in-depth explanation of each drill or activity, including the relevant skills being taught.
- Execute age- and skill-appropriate activities, while maintaining player engagement.
- Explain and instruct leadership and team building activities with attending players.
- In collaboration with other coaches and field supervisors, assess and determine the effectiveness of the training schedule.
- Provide emotional support to children on the playing field.
- Adhere to Chicano Federation’s plan for accident, injury, incident; immediately reporting and documenting all injuries or incidents utilizing established procedures for notification to the Soccer Operations Manager.
- Discuss and review player behavioral issues with coaching and supervisor staff.
- Attend and chaperone players at scheduled professional soccer matches in San Diego.
- Interact in a professional manner with community partners.
- Ability to engage in physical activity without limitation.
- Ability to move objects between 10 and 20 pounds.
- Resolve conflicts between competitive children on the playing field.
- Ability to assess and improvise trainings based on the skill level and engagement of the players.
- Consistent and clear communication with players as well as other coaching staff.
- Excellent teaching, management, and supervisory skills.
- Strong commitment to youth and their development.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- CPR certification
- Create a positive and encouraging learning environment for all coaches and players.
- Execute enthusiasm through positive reinforcement, patience, maturity, and dependability.
- Clear, concise, and direct communication with coworkers to develop a collaborative work environment.
- Display appropriate behavior to serve as a mentor in order to develop a good team environment.
- This position requires multi-tasking and problem solving in a fast-paced environment with children.
- Preferred- Bilingual in Spanish and English.
- Preferred- Previous experience coaching children ages 5-12.
- Valid driver’s license with ability to drive to various locations.
- Proof of proper vehicle insurance.
Education
- A bachelor’s degree preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Some College units are required.
Operating Responsability
Must interact with agency employees at all levels and community partners in a professional manner. Effective decision making required, as well as, the ability to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities.
Working conditions
Will work in an office environment in addition to outdoors at Central San Diego Elementary Schools and CVEATC Sites. Some travel required between offices at Chicano Federation and program sites when needed.
